Last week during the power outage we stayed one night with my cousin Mark. Hanging out in the basement that night just before he left for the Kanye West concert (I’m not a fan btw), I noticed some dumbbells and an exercise mat on the floor.
“You’re working out now, Mark? That’s awesome, man.”
“Yeah”, he replies. “I started doing P90X a couple of months ago but I stopped because the workouts were too long.”
Now I don’t watch TV, so I don’t know much about P90X, but from Mark tells me each workout is 90-minutes long and you have to do them 6 days per week.
So if we do the math…
90-minutes x 6 days per week = 540 minutes
That’s 9 hours per week of working out!
Now I LOVE training. But with a family and a job it’s downright irresponsible for me to spend 9 hours working out.
Which brings me to the 2 fundamental problems with the P90X workout…
First, these workouts are just too bloody long.
Second, you have to do them too darn often. No one has the time – or joints – for this. That’s why people quit P90X.
So P90X takes too much time and people drop out.
And CrossFit runs a 16%* risk of injury, so people are forced to drop out.

And the Insanity workouts…well, NOBODY wants to feel like they got hit by a truck after they worked out…and so people drop out.
Now I’m not a rocket scientist, but I know that for you and I to get results from our training, we need to enjoy ourselves so we can stick to it AND we need to see that our efforts are working.
